Multi-purpose contact lens solution is safe for rinsing lenses. It is not a replacement for eye drops. Lens solution cleans and disinfects. It does not provide the moisture needed for dry eyes.
- Never put hydrogen-peroxide-based solutions directly in the eye because they cause chemical burns.
- Multi-purpose solutions contain preservatives that may cause stinging or redness if used as drops.
- Standard eye drops mimic natural tears to stabilize moisture.
- Use only rewetting drops labeled for use with contact lenses to avoid clouding the lens material.
- Using lens solution for allergies or infections is ineffective.
