About Avaira Contacts
About Avaira Contact Lenses
CooperVision, one of the world’s leading contact lens companies, first released Avaira contacts in 2008. The contacts featured CooperVision’s proprietary Aquaform® Technology, which attracts and binds water throughout the contacts to retain moisture. Avaira contacts were also made of a highly breathable silicone hydrogel material that allowed plenty of oxygen to reach the eyes.
In 2010, CooperVision released Avaira Toric contacts for people with astigmatism. Aside from Aquaform Technology, Avaira Toric contacts featured Optimized Lens Geometry, a multifaceted design meant to ensure stability, precision, and comfort.
In 2016, CooperVision discontinued Avaira contacts and replaced them with Avaira Vitality contacts. This newer lens came with new features, such as Class 1 UV protection and a higher water content (55%). Class 1 lenses can block 96% of UVA rays and 100% of UVB rays, making them perfect for people who like to spend time outdoors. The high water content of Avaira Vitality contacts also made them very comfortable for beginners and young lens wearers.
CooperVision also released Avaira Vitality Toric contacts in 2016. Like the regular Avaira Vitality contacts, these toric lenses came with a higher water content (55%) and Class 1 UV protection. They also featured Optimized Lens Geometry for predictable orientation and excellent stability.
What do customers love about Avaira contacts?
Avaira contacts have over 100 glowing reviews on Lens.com. Here’s what customers love about these lenses:
- Comfortable - Avaira contacts are very popular among customers who prioritize comfort. Customers love that Avaira contacts have a high water content as they don’t have to use rewetting drops as often. If you want to wear contact lenses every day and are looking for a high level of comfort, Avaira contacts may be the right option for you.
- UV protection - Customers who spend a lot of time outdoors love the UV-blocking feature of Avaira contacts. Although the contacts are not substitutes for UV-absorbing sunglasses or goggles, they still provide a layer of protection against the sun’s rays.
- Precise vision - Customers who purchased Avaira Toric contacts love that the contacts are able to deliver consistently clear vision without giving them headaches. Headaches are a common side effect of astigmatism, but they may also occur due to ill-fitting contacts.
How do Avaira contacts compare to other popular contact lens brands from CooperVision?
CooperVision is the manufacturer of several popular contact lens brands, including MyDay daily disposable, clariti 1 day, and Biofinity. Both MyDay daily disposable and clariti 1 day are daily disposable lenses that you throw away after a day’s use. Because of how often they are replaced, they’re less prone to deposit buildup than bi-weekly or monthly lenses. Their convenient replacement schedule also makes them a great choice for new contact lens wearers. However, single-use lenses like MyDay daily disposable and clariti 1-day tend to be expensive upfront because they typically come in packs of 30 or 90 lenses.
Meanwhile, Biofinity contacts are monthly disposable lenses. They can be worn daily for up to 30 days or continuously for up to seven days. Like Avaira contacts, Biofinity contacts feature Aquaform Technology, but they don’t protect against UV radiation. Monthly disposable lenses like Biofinity contacts are also prone to deposit buildup, even with regular cleaning.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, these are 2 separate families of contacts that share the same manufacturer - CooperVision. Avaira lenses provide UV protection, while Biofinity comes with a better oxygen transmission value, which can impact wearing comfort (but varies from person to person). Biofinity can be worn up to 6 consecutive nights based on your eye care practitioner's advice, while Avaira needs to be taken out each night. Both lenses are high in value in terms of cost per lens with Avaira being slightly more cost-effective than the already budget-friendly Biofinity contacts.
Avaira lenses provide UV-blocking properties that can block over 90 percent of harmful UVA rays and 99 percent of dangerous UVB rays. With a combination of UV protection and breathability, they're a solid choice for wearers looking for comfort and sun protection. In addition, they are some of the most affordable lenses available in terms of their cost from both a per-lens perspective and maintenance perspective (case + solution).
Avaira contacts use silicone hydrogel in its construction, a material that many wearers prefer. Silicone hydrogel allows for a higher level of oxygen transmission than traditional hydrogel lenses. These lenses also feature enhancements like high water content to keep your eyes comfortable and moisturized.
