Product Information

SilSoft™ Aphakic contact lenses are specially designed for adults who have recently had cataract surgery without an intraocular lens implant. Made of a silicone hydrogel lens material, these contacts allow high levels of oxygen to reach the eye. As such, SilSoft Aphakic contacts can be worn overnight.

Features & Benefits

SilSoft Aphakic contacts are silicone hydrogel lenses that can be worn for several months to a year before they need to be replaced. They can be worn daily or continuously for up to a maximum of 30 days between removals for cleaning and disinfecting. Keep in mind that not everyone can wear these contacts for a full 30 days. If your eye care professional (ECP) recommends a different wearing schedule, follow their guidance. It is also recommended that you clean and disinfect your contacts whenever you remove them for whatever reason.

SilSoft Aphakic contacts allow more oxygen to pass through than any other contact lens for aphakia. In fact, these contacts have an incredibly high oxygen transmissibility value of 340. The higher the value, the more oxygen can pass through the contact lens to the eye. Our eyes need oxygen to stay moist, clear, and healthy.

SilSoft Aphakic contacts have only approximately 0.2 percent water content. This is a very low water content, but don’t worry. Low water content contacts won’t actually dry your eyes. On the contrary, they may help keep your eyes hydrated without the need for rewetting drops as, in general, lower water content lenses tend to draw less moisture from your eyes. This makes SilSoft Aphakic contacts ideal for people who experience dry eyes during lens wear.

The SilSoft lens material itself ensures a smooth fit. It also keeps the lens stable, so you can enjoy clear vision all day without having to worry about your contacts moving around.

Who They’re For

SilSoft Aphakic contacts are recommended for adults who have had cataract surgery without an intraocular lens being implanted.

Bausch + Lomb also states in its SilSoft Aphakic fitting guide that the contacts are indicated for vision correction in aphakic individuals with non-diseased eyes who exhibit refractive astigmatism of 1.50D or less and corneal astigmatism of 2.00D or less. However, supplemental glasses may be required for aphakic individuals in some conditions to provide near vision or to compensate for uncorrected refractive astigmatism.

About Aphakia

Aphakia is when a person does not have a lens in one or both eyes. The lens is a clear, flexible structure behind the iris (the colored part of your eye) that focuses light rays on the retina. Without it, the eye is out of focus, vision is blurry, and colors may appear faded. You may also have trouble focusing on an object as your distance from it changes. Without the lens, your iris may even jiggle or tremble as you move your eyes. Aphakia may be caused by a congenital defect, an eye injury, or cataract (a cloudy area in the lens) surgery. In adults and children, aphakia is typically diagnosed during a comprehensive eye exam.

Silsoft Aphakic Adult FAQs

Can you take a nap in Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts?

Yes, you can nap in Silsoft Aphakic Adult lenses. As Silsoft Aphakic Adult is approved for overnight wear (a full night's sleep), napping in them for a short period of time is not a problem. As always though, make sure you're OK to do so with your ECP even if they are technically approved as every individual's situation is different. Whether sleeping overnight or napping with contacts, this is an environment that reduces the amount of oxygen that reaches your eye, hence the precautions you need to take in terms of choosing the right lens.

How many boxes of Silsoft Aphakic Adult do I need to buy to last 6 months, or 12 months?

You need 1 box(es) of Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts to last you for 6 months. In order to last you for 12 months, you'll need 1 box(es). These amounts pertain to a single eye, so to cover both eyes, double these amounts.

How long does it take to adjust to wearing Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts?

If you're wearing Silsoft Aphakic Adult for the first time, it can take several days to a couple of weeks for you to adjust to wearing them on a daily basis. Contacts vary from brand to brand in terms of their shape, material, breathability, wetting agents used, and other factors, thus requiring an adjustment period. Rigid/hard lenses can sometimes take longer to adjust to, whereas most contacts in use today employ a soft form of silicone that is typically easy to adjust to.

Are Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts, monthly?

Yes, Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts are monthly disposable contacts. They are meant to be worn daily for 30 days, removed, cleaned and stored at night, and disposed of after 30 days to be replaced with a fresh set.

What if I don't have my prescription? Can I still order Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts?

Yes, you can still order Silsoft Aphakic Adult if you don't have a hard copy of your RX/prescription on hand. As long as you have a valid contact lens prescription (which will be on file at your ECP's) you can still place an order with us at Lens.com. Choose your lens, provide us with the contact info of your ECP and we'll do the rest. If your ECP is unable to respond to our request for the info needed in a timely manner, your lenses will automatically be shipped out to you. This is the process put in place by the FTC to ensure your rights as a consumer.

Can I use my eyeglass prescription for Silsoft Aphakic Adult contact lenses?

Unfortunately no, you can't use your eyeglass prescription for Silsoft Aphakic Adult lenses. Your eyeglass prescription only has the power part of the contact lens prescription. In addition to the power, the proper base curve (BC) and diameter (DIA) are needed to order contact lenses. Contact lenses come in different sizes and must be fit to your eye by an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist. As a replacement center, we can only sell you contact lenses that you are already wearing successfully. So ultimately eyeglass prescriptions are not the same as a prescription for Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts. See an ECP/optometrist if you're looking for a contact lens prescription and fitting as a first-time-wearer.

Is Silsoft Aphakic Adult contact lens FDA-approved?

Yes, Silsoft Aphakic Adult is FDA-approved. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates all contact lenses as prescription medical devices and thus must go through an approval process, after which they can be legally sold in the US (if approved). Lens.com sells only FDA-approved contact lenses. From lenses to address near, farsightedness, astigmatism, and even cosmetic lenses, our inventory consists only of FDA-approved contacts.

How old do you have to be to wear Silsoft Aphakic Adult contact lenses?

Like most contacts, including Silsoft Aphakic Adult, they can be worn by teens and potentially pre-teens as well, per the direction of an ECP. In general, there is no fixed minimum age for wearing contacts, as it's a judgment call based on lifestyle habits, budget, and of course your ECP's guidance. Contacts do require care and consistency in usage and maintenance/cleaning and these are the lifestyle factors you should consider when thinking about contacts for a child.

What is the water content of Silsoft Aphakic Adult?

Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts have a water content of 0%. The higher the water content in a contact lens, the more oxygen reaches the cornea during lens wear. There are other factors at play however so water content alone isn't enough of a factor to judge a lens' performance for a given person. High water content lenses can feel comfortable initially but may dry out over time, but this is not always the case. So it's good to know about the water content of a lens, but it's not everything. Consult your ECP to find out the best options for you.

How should I store my Silsoft Aphakic Adult contact lenses?

Daily disposable contacts cannot be stored and must be discarded at the end of each day. Even if you wear them for only a few hours one day, you still need to discard them after that use and wear a fresh pair of contacts the next day.

You may keep weekly contacts in multi-purpose contact solution in a tightly closed contact lens case for up to 2 weeks.

For monthly replacement lenses you may store them in contact solution in a tightly closed contact lens case for up to 30 days.

No, Silsoft Aphakic Adult contacts have not been discontinued by Bausch & Lomb. They continue to be produced, marketed, and sold on Lens.com. Do I need a prescription, or a copy of my prescription in order to buy Silsoft Aphakic Adult?

Yes, you do require a valid prescription in order to buy Silsoft Aphakic Adult or any contacts in the United States, per Federal Law. However, at Lens.com having a copy of your prescription in your possession is not required to place an order (though be aware it's something that is owed to you by your ECP once you complete an eye examination so that you can choose where to purchase your contacts). If you don't have a copy in your possession, Lens.com representatives will help verifying your prescription by calling your ECP for you. Provide us with the basic information, sit back, and relax.

Delivery

Delivery was quick. I was a bit concerned that purchasing online at a competitive price might compromise the expiration date - But that was not true at all! Thank you!

Great Delivery on Hard to Find Contact

Lens.com came through on their delivery of a contact that was out of stock. This lens was hard to find anywhere, even our optometrist was unable to get it from their own vendor. Lens.com was great about communicating when there was a slight delay in the delivery timeframe. But even then, it arrived before their second delivery estimate. The contact was packaged well and arrived safely.

Medically necessary contact lens for cheaper

My child wears this lens for visual development after congenital cataract removal. They are comfortable and last a while. Although they're expensive, they're worth it for his vision, and Lens.com sells them for about half the price that my doctor's office was charging.
