There are two answers to this question, depending on what’s being asked. If we’re asking if you can wear contact lenses when you have an eye infection, the answer is no way! Listen to your eyecare practitioner and do what they say. If the question is can I get an eye infection by using contact lenses, the answer is yes. But, and this is important, the contact lenses will not likely be the cause of the infection. The manufacturers of contact lenses go to great lengths to ensure all contact lenses are sterile when you receive them. They get dirty and can transmit bacteria to your eyes only when you don’t follow your doctor’s instructions with respect to the care and handling of your contact lenses. Follow all the directions and you should be fine.
