What Is MoistureSeal Technology?

Updated December 3, 2024 – MoistureSeal™ Technology is a proprietary technology developed by Bausch + Lomb, a leading global eye health company. It was introduced in 2014 and implemented in the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA product family.

How Does MoistureSeal Technology Work?

MoistureSeal Technology helps the lens maintain 95 % of its moisture for a full 16 hours, making for a comfortable contact lens-wearing experience. It was made through a unique process that grows polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) — a wetting agent used in contact lenses and eye drops to increase wettability and moisture retention. As a result of the unique PVP growing process, Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contacts reportedly have four times more PVP than other silicone hydrogel contacts.

All things considered, MoistureSeal Technology allows Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contacts to achieve a high overall and end-of-day comfort.

Benefits of MoistureSeal Technology

By retaining a high level of moisture, lenses with MoistureSeal Technology provide:

Extended Comfort: Wearers experience consistent comfort throughout the day, even during prolonged screen time or in dry environments.

Reduced Dryness: The enhanced moisture retention helps alleviate symptoms of dryness and irritation commonly associated with contact lens wear.

Improved Eye Health: Maintaining adequate moisture levels supports overall eye health and reduces the risk of complications related to dry eyes.

Contact Lens Discomfort

Discomfort is one of the most common problems for contact lens wearers. Contact lens discomfort can occur for various reasons, including allergies, debris on the lens, and poor fit.

You may also experience discomfort from simply wearing your contact lenses for too long, even if they’re indicated for overnight or extended wear. This is caused by the loss of moisture that all contact lenses experience throughout the day.

A loss of moisture is addressed with Bausch + Lomb’s MoistureSeal Technology. The average soft contact lens can stay moist and comfortable for 12 to 14 hours, but MoistureSeal Technology takes that further by keeping the lens moist and comfortable for a full 16 hours.
