About Air Optix Contact Lenses

Air Optix® brand contacts are manufactured by Alcon, a global, leading eyewear company that has been in business since 1945. According to Alcon, the Air Optix family of breathable contact lenses allows you to focus on your life, not your contacts. Air Optix brand contacts provide clear vision and consistent comfort, and their monthly replacement schedule is easy to remember.

The Complete Line of Air Optix Contacts

The Air Optix brand is a family of breathable silicone hydrogel contact lenses that provide vision correction for a variety of eye care needs.

This product line includes the following:

  • Air Optix Aqua - Introduced in 2008; available for presbyopia
  • Air Optix Colors - Introduced in 2014; available with and without vision correction
  • Air Optix for Astigmatism - Introduced in 2007; suitable for mild, moderate, and high astigmatism
  • Air Optix Night & Day Aqua - Introduced in 2009; FDA-approved for up to 30 nights of continuous wear
  • Air Optix plus HydraGlyde - Released April 2016 in European Markets and November 2016 in North America; available for presbyopia and astigmatism

Why Choose Air Optix?

Air Optix brand contacts are unique among silicone hydrogel lenses because of SmartShield® Technology, a patented, ultra-thin surface layer that resists irritating deposits all month long. The protective SmartShield layer also helps keep the lens surface hydrated to ensure a comfortable lens-wearing experience.

Another notable feature of Air Optix contacts is their breathability. Air Optix contacts allow up to five times more oxygen to pass through to the eye than other silicone hydrogel contact lenses on the market. Insufficient oxygen may cause corneal swelling and lead to uncomfortable lens wear. This isn’t a problem with highly breathable Air Optix brand contacts.

Air Optix contacts’ breathability also makes them suitable for both daily and overnight wear. In fact, apart from Air Optix Colors (daily wear only) and Air Optix Night & Day Aqua (FDA-approved for up to 30 nights of continuous wear), all contacts in the Air Optix family are FDA-approved for up to seven days of continuous wear.

Additionally, all Air Optix contacts have a monthly replacement schedule, which many lens wearers find convenient and easy to remember.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are AIR OPTIX brand contact lenses?

The AIR OPTIX contact lens brand is a family of breathable, silicone hydrogel contact lenses from Alcon that provides vision correction for a variety of eye care and lifestyle needs. AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde (lotrafilcon B), AIR OPTIX AQUA, AIR OPTIX for Astigmatism and AIR OPTIX AQUA Multifocal contacts are approved for daily wear or extended wear up to 6 nights. AIR OPTIX NIGHT & DAY AQUA contacts are highly breathable* soft lenses and are FDA-approved for daily wear and extended wear up to 30 nights of continuous wear. HydraGlyde (featured in Air Optix plus HydraGlyde) utilizes a patented formulation of wetting agents that keep the surface of the lens hydrated for a relatively long period of time.

How does SmartShield® Technology in AIR OPTIX contacts work?

SmartShield tech is featured in all Air Optix-brand contacts. The feature works by creating an ultra-thin protective layer to help shield your lenses from irritating deposits throughout a month of wear. Not all manufactures of contacts incorporate technology to guard against deposit build-up so this is a differentiator for the brand.

How long can I wear my AIR OPTIX contact lenses?

AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde, AIR OPTIX AQUA, AIR OPTIX Multifocal, and AIR OPTIX for Astigmatism contact lenses are all FDA-approved for both daily wear and extended wear for a period of up to 6 nights. Meanwhile, AIR OPTIX NIGHT & DAY AQUA contact lenses are FDA-approved for continuous wear of up to 30 nights. In all cases, guidance from your ECP should 1st be sought as every situation is unique.

Can you shower with Air Optix contacts?
No. You should never shower while wearing your Air Optix contacts. Please remove your lenses before showering, bathing, or swimming to avoid exposing them to water. Water contains microbes and contaminants that can pose a risk to eye health.

I like the price of the contacts and in the 4 plus years that i have ordered from lens.com i always get a rebate incentive. so bonus.

Air Optix Aqua

Monthly Disposable

The Hydraglyde contacts are for my husband. He said they feel good and are comfortable. I asked if they were different from the Air Optic and he said there was not much difference that he could tell yet. No complaints thus far. He's been wearing them about a week.

Air Optix Night & Day Aqua

Monthly Disposable

I LOVE the fact I don’t have to take them in and out every day. I have trouble putting contacts in, so to only have to do it every 30 days is great. When I take them out, I wear my glasses for about a week to let my eyes breath, but I can’t say enough good things about my Air Optix!

Air Optix Aqua Multifocal

Bifocal Lenses

These are nice lenses. At first I didn’t notice much difference between the regular Air Optics and these. After a few days wearing off and on, I didn’t notice the dry, tired eye I struggled with in the past. These are great!

Air Optix Colors

I truly appreciate your product and customer service when it comes to the Rebate form and product online order confirmation. Many thanks!

Good lenses
Great lens, good moisture and multifocal. Rebate system a necessary waste of time to deal with.
Been wearing soft lenses for 20+ years and these are the most comfortable ever! They don't dry out, I see very clearly with them and they are comparably priced.
