How to Correctly Enter Right-Eye Values When Ordering Online

Start by finding the OD row on your current contact lens prescription, then copy the right-eye details into the right-eye order field. Enter the full product name, power, BC, DIA, and replacement schedule exactly as written. If the OD row includes toric values, add cylinder and axis without switching them with the OS line. If the OD row includes multifocal values, enter the ADD power for that eye only. Before checkout, compare the right-eye box count with your wearing schedule so your supply length makes sense.

Will Mixing up Your OD and OS Boxes Cause Lasting Damage?

Mixing up OD and OS boxes usually causes temporary blur, imbalance, or discomfort when the two eyes have different values, but it should still be taken seriously. The issue can feel more noticeable with toric lenses because cylinder and axis values must match the correct eye. Multifocal wearers can also notice trouble with near or distance vision if ADD power differs between eyes. If you realize you mixed up your lenses, remove them, check the packaging, wash your hands, and restart with the correct right-eye and left-eye lenses.

Sizing Labels for Astigmatism and Presbyopia Prescriptions

Specialty prescriptions can add more labels to the OD row. These values help the right-eye lens match both your vision need and the way the lens should sit on your eye.

Toric Labels

Toric prescriptions for astigmatism include cylinder and axis values. Cylinder measures astigmatism correction, while axis tells the lens where that correction should sit. These numbers can differ between OD and OS, so copy the right-eye values carefully.

Multifocal Labels

Multifocal prescriptions include ADD power for near-vision help. The right eye may have the same or different ADD value as the left eye, depending on your fitting. Do not copy the OS value into the OD field unless they match.

Fit Labels

BC and DIA are fit details that can appear on both OD and OS rows. These values help the lens sit, move, and center correctly. If one side differs, each eye should be ordered exactly as written.

Do You Need a Separate Doctor Form for Each Eye?

No, most wearers do not need a separate doctor form for each eye. A contact lens prescription usually lists OD and OS details together, even when the right and left eyes have different values. The important step is entering each side correctly during ordering and giving accurate eye doctor information for verification. If one eye uses a different lens type, such as a toric lens on one side and a spherical lens on the other, the prescription should clearly show that difference.

How Often Can OD Measurements Change Over Time?

OD values can change when your vision, eye health, lens fit, or wearing needs change. This is one reason contact lens prescriptions expire and should be renewed through an eye exam.

  • Power can change as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or presbyopia shifts.
  • Toric cylinder and axis can change if astigmatism correction changes.
  • ADD power can change as near-vision needs progress.
  • BC or DIA can change if your eye doctor refits you into another lens.
  • Product name can change if comfort, dryness, or availability becomes an issue.

A stable right-eye prescription can still need review. Use your current prescription instead of relying on old boxes.

When One Eye Needs a Different Contact Lens Type

Some wearers use different lens types between OD and OS, but this should only happen when the prescription clearly lists it. One eye may need a toric lens for astigmatism while the other uses a spherical lens. Some presbyopia fittings can also use different powers or lens designs between eyes. Do not create your own mixed order to lower costs or use leftover boxes. The OD product and OS product should reflect the exact fitting your eye doctor approved.

Annual Supply Planning When OD and OS Values Differ

Annual supply planning gets more complicated when OD and OS values differ. Current online listings for examples discussed here show standard soft lenses ranging from about $11 to $65 per box, while toric, multifocal, and specialty lenses can range from about $18 to $115 per box depending on product, pack size, rebates, taxes, fees, and final checkout details. If OD and OS require different products, annual costs may differ per eye. Compare box count, replacement schedule, supply length, and prescription details before ordering more.

Common OD Ordering Mistakes to Avoid

OD confusion is common when wearers compare boxes, prescriptions, and online forms. Slow down before copying numbers into an order field.

  • Do not assume OD means once daily or one day.
  • Do not enter the same values for both eyes unless they match.
  • Do not use an eyeglass prescription to order contacts.
  • Do not ignore toric or multifocal values on the OD row.
  • Do not switch right-eye products without doctor approval.

The right-eye row carries more than the power number. Product name, fit values, specialty details, and schedule all matter.

What to Do If Your OD Details Do Not Match Your Box

If your OD details do not match your current box, pause before ordering. The prescription may have changed, the box may be old, or the wrong eye may have been labeled during storage.

  • Check the prescription date and confirm it is still current.
  • Compare product name, power, BC, DIA, and specialty values.
  • Look for right, RE, or OD markings on the box.
  • Ask your eye doctor to confirm the current right-eye prescription.
  • Do not order from an older box if a newer fitting changed your values.

A mismatch does not always mean something is wrong, but it should be checked. The current approved prescription should guide your order.

ULTRA for Astigmatism

I have been using B+L SofLens Toric Astigmatism.

After I had been happily using them for decades, I could not reorder my contact lenses since Bausch+Lomb officially discontinued many SofLens® Toric lenses in July  2023.
As my Rx had not changed, my optometrist recommended another manufacturer, which I tried using for months, and was very disappointed.
Then on the Lens.com website, I ordered B+L ULTRA for Astigmatism Contact Lenses, and they seem just the same to me as the discontinued B+L SofLens® Toric contact lens. Now I couldn't be happier!
