Are Wacky Contact Lenses Safe?

Yes, wacky contact lenses can be worn safely when they're prescribed, fitted, and used correctly. We only carry contacts that are FDA-approved or FDA-cleared for legal sale in the United States, and we require prescription information before an order can ship.

FDA review is only one part of safe wear. The lens still needs to fit your eye, and you'll need to follow the cleaning, storage, replacement, and wearing directions for the exact product.

Keep these basic rules in mind:

  • Wash and dry your hands before touching the lenses.
  • Use fresh contact lens solution for cleaning and storage.
  • Don't rinse or store contacts in tap water.
  • Don't share wacky contacts with anyone else.
  • Don't sleep, swim, or shower in them unless your eye doctor specifically says you can.
  • Remove them if you develop pain, redness, discharge, light sensitivity, or sudden blurry vision.

Avoid novelty shops, beauty stores, street vendors, and websites that sell decorative contacts without asking for a prescription. The FDA warns that those lenses could be poorly fitted, contaminated, counterfeit, or unreviewed.

Do You Still Need a Prescription for Wacky Contacts?

Yes. Every contact lens requires a valid prescription in the United States, including wacky contacts with zero vision-correcting power.

A zero-power lens is often described as plano, but it still rests directly on the eye. Your eye doctor checks the fit and records details such as the product name, base curve, diameter, power, and expiration date. Those measurements help match the lens to the size and shape of your eye.

An eyeglass prescription can't be used in place of a contact lens prescription. Glasses sit in front of your eyes, while contacts sit on them, so the prescription and fitting information aren't the same.

When you order from us, you can upload a current prescription or enter your eye doctor's name and phone number. We'll contact the office and verify the lens details before completing the order.

Can You Use Insurance to Buy Wacky Contact Lenses?

You may be able to use vision insurance if your plan includes an out-of-network contact lens benefit. We're considered an out-of-network retailer by most major vision insurers, so your benefit usually won't be applied during checkout.

The usual process looks like this:

  1. Place and pay for your order.
  2. Download or request an itemized invoice.
  3. Complete your insurer's out-of-network claim form.
  4. Submit the form, invoice, and proof of payment.
  5. Wait for your insurance company to review the claim.

Coverage depends on your plan. Your insurer decides whether decorative or novelty contacts qualify, how much it will reimburse, and how often you can use the benefit. Check those details before placing the order since we can't guarantee reimbursement.

Contact lenses may also qualify for FSA or HSA spending. Your plan administrator can confirm whether the particular wacky lenses you're buying count as an eligible expense.

Why Shop Wacky Contacts at Lens.com

We've sold prescription contact lenses online since 1995. When you shop with us, you can compare novelty designs, prescription ranges, lens counts, replacement periods, current discounts, and order requirements in one place.

Save on Wacky Contact Lenses

We sell wacky contacts at discounted prices, and certain styles may qualify for mail-in rebates. Pricing differs by design, prescription, quantity, availability, and whether the lens is custom-made.

Read the box and pricing details carefully before checkout. Many wacky contacts are sold as one lens, so you may need to select separate quantities for your right and left eyes. Some theatrical designs also have longer production times and final-sale policies.

Review these details before ordering:

  • Price per lens or box
  • Number of lenses included
  • Prescription range
  • Base curve and diameter
  • Replacement period
  • Rebate requirements
  • Production or delivery time
  • Cancellation and return policy
  • Shipping costs and order total

We Verify Your Contact Lens Prescription

Federal law requires us to obtain or verify your prescription before selling contact lenses. You can upload a copy, or you can give us your eye doctor's name and phone number so we can contact the office directly.

Our verification request includes the prescribed manufacturer or brand, lens power, base curve, diameter, quantity, and other required details. Your prescriber has eight business hours to confirm, correct, or reject the request. If the office doesn't respond during that period, the prescription is treated as verified under the Contact Lens Rule.

This process helps us ship the exact wacky contacts tied to your prescription. We won't treat a similarly colored or patterned lens as an automatic substitute since materials, measurements, and fit can differ between products.

Before submitting the order, check:

  • The exact product name
  • Right-eye and left-eye quantities
  • Power for each eye
  • Base curve and diameter
  • Plano selection, if prescribed
  • Your eye doctor's contact information
  • Prescription expiration date
  • Shipping address

An expired prescription must be renewed before we can ship your lenses.

Stay on Schedule With AutoRefill

AutoRefill is available for eligible contact lens products shown during checkout. Once enrolled, you choose the shipping frequency and receive 5% off future AutoRefill orders. We'll also email you before the next order is processed.

You can log in to change the quantity, shipment date, delivery frequency, shipping address, payment card, or next delivery date. You can also cancel without a long-term commitment.

Not every wacky contact lens will be suited to AutoRefill. Many novelty products come with a long replacement period, are sold as single lenses, or are made to order. Look for the AutoRefill option in your cart to see whether the specific design qualifies.

AutoRefill orders use the current everyday price minus the AutoRefill discount. Previous sale prices, rebates, and coupons may not carry over to the next shipment. A valid prescription is still required for future orders.

Banshee Contacts - awesomely cool

Wow! These lenses are awesomely cool! It's amazing how something so tiny can completely transform your overall appearance! I cannot wait to freak out people when I wear them! I am ordering some different types too, they are impressive. Plus, I can still see well with them on, since they were made up with my prescription too!

these are simply THE best contacts for a costume or party. I've had the standard black ones and even those white outs. But these are so twisted that I'll never be able to wear anything else again.

Beware the dragon

Bahamut is one of my favorites. If your going as a dragon king or just a plain old dragon, finish off the look. Well worth it - and they actually feel better than my regular contact lenses.
