Product Information

Nike MaxSight is a revolutionary, fully tinted soft contact lens manufactured by Bausch + Lomb in partnership with sportswear company Nike. It was designed to reduce glare, increase contrast, and filter out blue and UV light, providing athletes with better visual quality than standard contact lenses or glasses.

Nike MaxSight comes in two tints to address different sporting needs: gray for sports played in bright sunlight and amber for sports that require tracking a fast-moving ball, such as tennis.

Nike MaxSight has been discontinued, but we will continue to sell and ship this contact lens as long as supplies last.

History of Nike MaxSight & Why It's Gotten Interest in 2023

Interest in the Nike MaxSight contact lenses from 2006 has spiked recently following throwback posts on Twitter about the product.

The posts quickly gained traction as users raved online about how the Nike MaxSight in Amber bore a striking resemblance to the “Sharingan” from the hit Japanese manga and anime series “Naruto.”

In the series, the “Sharingan” is an ability that allows a user to copy, by mere sight, an opponent’s techniques. It also temporarily gives the user enhanced reflexes and perceptive abilities. In Japanese, the term “Sharingan” literally means “copy wheel eye.” As such, the ability is portrayed as primarily affecting the eyes. When activated, the user’s eyes turn red, and black, comma-like patterns appear on their iris.

Because Nike MaxSight supposedly provides athletes a visual edge and because of how the amber-tinted version of the contact lens appeared, “Naruto” fans had little trouble drawing similarities between Nike MaxSight and the “Sharingan.”

While the Nike MaxSight contact lenses didn’t enhance wearers’ reflexes or perceptive abilities to the extreme, it seems the lenses’ reported visual benefits were enough grounds for a ban.

Novelty Alternatives

If you want the “Sharingan” look without the visual benefits of Nike MaxSight, check out our Naruto-inspired Mangekyo and Hatake novelty contact lenses.

Need an Updated Prescription?

Most Halloween or novelty contact lenses are purely cosmetic (Plano), which means they provide no vision correction. However, the FDA considers them medical devices just the same. You’ll need a valid contact lens prescription from a licensed eye care professional (ECP) if you want to buy and wear Halloween or novelty contact lenses.

At Lens.com, we make the process of updating your contact lens prescription hassle-free. Take our online vision test and skip the trip to the doctor’s office. A board-certified ophthalmologist will review your test results within 24 hours. Once approved, you'll get a copy of your updated prescription.

You can then place your order, send us a copy of your prescription, and we’ll ship your contact lenses to you. Easy, right?
