White Contact Lenses
White contact lenses are the ultimate accessory for Halloween, cosplay, and theatrical makeup. Whether you are transforming into a zombie, a ghost, or an otherworldly creature, these lenses provide a chilling, blank stare that is impossible to achieve with makeup alone. Because they are designed with high-opacity pigments, they can completely hide your natural eye color, making them effective for both light and dark eyes.
What Are White Contact Lenses?
Most Halloween lenses are "opaque" lenses, meaning the color is solid and does not let your natural iris show through. White contact lenses come in several distinct styles to match different characters:
- White-Out Lenses - These cover your iris with solid white pigment but have a clear hole in the center for your pupil. This allows you to see clearly while giving the appearance of a possessed or "undead" eye.
- White Mesh Lenses - These feature a fine grid of white dots over the entire lens, including the pupil. This creates a ghostly, hazy effect across the whole eye. While you can see through them, your vision will be slightly blurred, like looking through a screen door.
- Blind White Lenses - These are solid white across the entire lens with no pupil hole. They create a terrifying, sightless look but will significantly or completely block your vision. They are best used for photoshoots or short periods where you have a "handler" to help you move.
- White Sclera Lenses - These extra large lenses (22mm) cover the white part of your eye as well as the iris, creating a massive, haunting white void.
Are White Contacts Safe?
White contact lenses are safe to wear as long as you treat them as medical devices. In the United States, even "plano" (non-prescription) costume lenses require a prescription from an eye doctor. This ensures the lenses fit the specific curve of your eye and allow enough oxygen to reach your cornea.
To keep your eyes safe during Halloween, follow these rules:
- Buy From Reputable Sources - Only purchase FDA-approved lenses from trusted retailers. Avoid buying contacts from beauty supply stores, flea markets, or novelty shops, as these may use unsafe dyes or be contaminated.
- Never Share Your Lenses - Even if you just want to see how they look, sharing contacts can spread serious bacteria and lead to permanent vision loss.
- Check the Expiration - Costume lenses often have a specific "replacement schedule," such as 1 day, 30 days, or 90 days. Always throw them away once that time is up, regardless of how many times you wore them.
Can You Sleep With White Contact Lenses In?
No, you should never sleep in white contact lenses. Costume lenses are generally thicker and less breathable than standard clear contacts. Wearing them overnight can "suffocate" your cornea, leading to swelling, painful infections, or corneal ulcers. Most eye care professionals recommend wearing decorative lenses for no more than 6 to 8 hours at a time. If you feel any pain, redness, or excessive watering, remove the lenses immediately and give your eyes a rest.
How to Care for Your Halloween Lenses
Proper hygiene is the key to a safe Halloween experience. Since many people only wear white lenses once or twice a year, it is easy to forget the basics:
- Wash Your Hands - Always scrub your hands with soap and dry them with a lint free towel before touching your lenses.
- Use Fresh Solution - Never use tap water or saliva to clean your lenses. Only use a sterile multipurpose contact lens solution recommended by your doctor.
- Clean Your Case - Bacteria can grow in your lens case. Rinse it with solution after each use and let it air dry upside down.
- Follow the Instructions - Every pair of lenses comes with specific care and wear guidelines. Reading these ensures your eyes stay healthy while you enjoy your transformation.

High Prescription Options!!
The hardest thing about finding appropriate contacts with a higher prescription is that most of them have zero prescription. Lens.com offers great options to those who need to see while looking fabulous for Halloween! Thanks!!
Awesome
Wore them as party of my Halloween costume, made my costume awesome. Highly recommended.
Awesome contacts
More comfortable than expected. Even with the prescription ones. Look great and reasonable price!
They look great but not soft enough
They aren’t quite as comfortable as I’d like. They should be softer and thinner.
Perfect service and vision
I love everything about the product down to the delivery service. Thank you so much.
Looks really creepy, can't wear for long
Loved the effect - especially in one eye only. The size wasn't my exact prescription so it did get uncomfortable after a few hours.
Beautiful, but diameter was a little too large.
I wear contacts every day. I got the Manson contacts in my current Rx to wear with my Halloween costume. I LOVED them, and got SO many compliments on them! However, there was only one sizing option and the diameter was a little too big for my eyes I think because I feel like I could see the white part of the contact when I moved my eyes. If I was looking straight, there was no problem. The Rx was perfect. As the night went on, they didn't bother me as much. I would definitely order them again if I needed any colored contacts. If the diameter could be a little smaller, they would work even better for me.
