Wearers should replace them on the schedule given by the eye care professional and product instructions, since overwearing lenses can raise the risk of discomfort or complications.

Daily Novelty Contacts

Daily novelty contacts are better for one-day conventions, Halloween parties, photoshoots, or first-time wearers who want less cleaning and storage work. A fresh pair is used once and thrown away at the end of the day, which makes them convenient for travel or busy event prep. The tradeoff is that daily options may not always come in the same intense cosplay patterns as reusable novelty lenses, so the wearer should choose based on both the character effect and the safest prescribed option available.

How long you can wear novelty contacts depends on the lens type, your eye health, and the schedule given by your eye care professional. For an event, it is safest to think of them as limited-wear lenses rather than something to keep in from morning until late night. Put them in close to the start of the event, bring a clean case and fresh solution, and take them out before sleeping, showering, swimming, or using a hot tub.

Do not push through discomfort for the sake of a costume. If your eyes feel dry, painful, irritated, watery, blurry, or unusually sensitive, remove the lenses and switch to glasses or go without them. Redness, ongoing pain, or discharge can be signs of an eye infection, so the lenses should stay out until an eye care professional checks your eyes.

Before buying novelty lenses, check that your prescription has the details needed for a safe, accurate fit. Decorative lenses still count as contact lenses, so a valid prescription should cover more than whether you need vision correction.
