What to Check Before Comparing Contact Lens Prices

Before comparing contact lens prices, make sure you are looking at the right product for your prescription. A cheaper box is not a better deal if the lens type, measurements, supply length, or replacement schedule does not match what you need.

  1. Check that your contact lens prescription is still valid before you order.
  1. Match the exact lens name, power, base curve, diameter, and any astigmatism details listed on your prescription.
  1. Compare the same lens type across prices, since daily, bi-weekly, monthly, toric, and multifocal contacts can have different cost ranges.
  1. Look at the number of lenses per box, not just the box price, so you know how long each box will actually last.
  1. Factor in the full routine, including contact lens solution and a storage case if you wear reusable lenses.
  1. Review the current product listing before checkout because prices, rebates, and available savings can change.
  1. Avoid switching to a different lens just because it costs less unless your eye care professional approves the change.

What to Check on Your Prescription Before Ordering Lenses Online

Before ordering lenses online, check that your contact lens prescription is current and written specifically for contacts, not glasses. Your prescription should list the lens details needed for ordering, such as the power, lens name or material, base curve, diameter, issue date, expiration date, and your eye care professional's contact information.

You should also check whether your prescription includes extra measurements for astigmatism or multifocal correction, since these can affect which lenses you can buy. Do not switch to a different lens type, size, or replacement schedule just because it costs less, since contact lenses need to match both your prescription and the fit approved by your eye care professional.

Can You Order Contacts Online If Your Prescription Is Expired?

No, you should use a current, valid contact lens prescription when you order contact lenses online. An expired prescription should not be used to reorder, even if you are buying the same lenses you wore before or your vision feels unchanged. A contact lens prescription helps confirm more than vision power. It can also include fit-related details such as lens material, base curve, diameter, issue date, expiration date, and other information needed to fill the order correctly and safely.

If your prescription has expired, schedule an updated contact lens exam before reordering. Your eye care professional can check your vision, evaluate how the lenses fit, look at your eye health, and confirm whether your current lens type and wearing schedule still work for you. This matters because your eyes, comfort, tear film, and prescription needs can change over time. Ordering with an updated prescription helps reduce the chance of wearing lenses that no longer fit well, feel comfortable, or support safe daily wear.

How Do You Know If a Contact Lens Deal Is Actually Worth It?

You can tell a contact lens deal is worth it by comparing the final cost, not just the first price you see. Look at the price per box, how many lenses are included, whether your right and left eyes need different prescriptions, shipping fees, taxes, processing fees, rebate terms, and any minimum purchase requirements. A lower listed price may not be the lowest total once checkout costs are added, while a higher box price may become more reasonable if it includes more lenses or qualifies for a legitimate rebate. For daily lenses, it can also help to compare the cost per day of wear instead of only comparing box prices.

A good deal should still match your exact contact lens prescription, lens type, and replacement schedule. Do not switch to a different lens, brand, material, size, curve, or wearing schedule just because it is cheaper. Contact lenses sit directly on the eye, and the prescription can include fit-related details that help confirm the lens is safe and comfortable for you. Before ordering, make sure the seller can fill the prescription correctly, verify that your prescription is current, and review the return, exchange, and rebate requirements. The best deal is the one that saves money without compromising fit, comfort, vision, or eye health.

What Should You Check Before Claiming a Contact Lens Rebate?

Before claiming a contact lens rebate, check the full offer terms instead of relying only on the advertised savings amount. Confirm that your order qualifies, including the purchase dates, number of boxes required, lens type, prescription requirements, seller requirements, and whether the rebate applies before or after other discounts. Also check how the rebate will be issued, since some offers may come as a prepaid card, digital payment, check, or other form of credit. A rebate is only worth counting into your savings if you can meet every requirement without changing to lenses that do not match your valid prescription.

Keep your receipt, order confirmation, prescription details, box information, and any required codes or packaging until the rebate is approved and paid. Submit the form exactly as instructed, pay attention to mailing or online submission deadlines, and make copies or screenshots of everything you send. Missing documents, late submissions, mismatched order details, or incomplete forms can delay or affect your savings. It also helps to compare the final cost after the rebate with the total checkout price, shipping, taxes, and any fees so you know whether the deal is actually saving you money.

ULTRA for Astigmatism

I have been using B+L SofLens Toric Astigmatism.

After I had been happily using them for decades, I could not reorder my contact lenses since Bausch+Lomb officially discontinued many SofLens® Toric lenses in July  2023.
As my Rx had not changed, my optometrist recommended another manufacturer, which I tried using for months, and was very disappointed.
Then on the Lens.com website, I ordered B+L ULTRA for Astigmatism Contact Lenses, and they seem just the same to me as the discontinued B+L SofLens® Toric contact lens. Now I couldn't be happier!
