Contact Lenses for Readers
Lens.com has contact lenses for readers at up to 70% off, including multifocal contacts made for near, intermediate, and distance vision. For many people who've started finding it difficult to focus on close print, multifocal contact lenses are the main contact-lens alternative to carrying reading glasses.
Contact lenses for reading contain more than one prescription power within each lens. Your eyes learn to use the appropriate areas when you read a book, check your phone, work at a computer, or look across the room. The right pair depends on your distance prescription, near ADD power, eye shape, and how your vision responds during a fitting.

Why Multifocal Contacts Work Well for Readers
Presbyopia is the gradual loss of the eye's ability to focus on close objects. It commonly becomes noticeable after age 40, when menus, labels, phone screens, or books start looking clearer at arm's length than they do up close.
Reading glasses correct near vision while you're wearing them, but you usually need to put them on and take them off as your focus changes. Multifocal contacts stay on your eyes and contain different corrective powers within the same lens.
Depending on the lens design, they can help with:
- Near vision for books, text messages, labels, menus, and other close work
- Intermediate vision for laptops, dashboards, kitchen counters, and conversations
- Distance vision for walking, watching television, attending events, and driving
This can be useful for contact lens wearers who already need distance correction and don't want to layer reading glasses over standard contacts every time they look at something close.
Multifocals don't create identical vision for every wearer. Your eyes and brain may need time to adjust to the different focus zones, and some people notice small compromises in sharpness or contrast at certain distances. Your eye doctor can adjust the distance power, ADD power, lens design, or dominant-eye setup during the fitting. FDA patient information also notes that multifocal wearers may not reach their absolute sharpest possible vision at both near and far distances, so individual visual demands should guide the prescription.
Best Multifocal Contact Lenses for Readers
The best contacts for reading are the exact multifocal lenses fitted and prescribed for your eyes. Among the different types of contact lenses for presbyopia, shoppers can choose from fresh daily disposables and reusable monthly designs.
DAILIES TOTAL1 Multifocal
Best for readers who want a premium daily disposable
DAILIES TOTAL1 Multifocal combines a one-day replacement schedule with Precision Profile Design for near, intermediate, and distance tasks. Its delefilcon A material has a water-gradient surface designed to place a highly moist layer against the eye.
These contacts are discarded after each wear, so there's no nightly cleaning or storage. They're worth discussing with your eye doctor if you prefer fresh lenses, read throughout the day, and frequently move between printed material, screens, and distance vision.
ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Multifocal
Best for readers who spend long hours around screens
ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Multifocal is a daily disposable silicone hydrogel lens for presbyopia. Its multifocal design combines several corrective powers within one lens, while the one-day schedule lets you start with a fresh pair each morning.
This product can suit people whose daily routine includes phone reading, computer work, paperwork, and frequent shifts to distance viewing. Since the lens is discarded after use, you won't need a reusable contact lens care routine.
1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST Multifocal
Best for readers looking for an established hydrogel daily
1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST Multifocal is a daily disposable hydrogel lens made for wearers with presbyopia. It blends multiple prescription powers in one lens and comes in different ADD levels based on the amount of near correction prescribed.
It's another option for people who want contacts for reading without cleaning and storing lenses overnight. Lens.com carries both 30-pack and 90-pack choices, which lets you compare shorter and longer supplies.
Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia
Best for readers who want a daily multifocal from Bausch + Lomb
Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia uses a 3-Zone Progressive Design for close, intermediate, and distance viewing. It's a daily disposable, so every pair is worn once and discarded after removal.
This lens can fit routines that mix reading, computer use, conversations, errands, and driving. It's also available in longer pack sizes for people who wear contacts regularly.
Biofinity Multifocal
Best for readers who prefer a reusable monthly lens
Biofinity Multifocal is a monthly silicone hydrogel lens from CooperVision. Its Balanced Progressive Technology places multiple vision zones within the lens to handle close work, intermediate tasks, and distance viewing.
The monthly schedule can make sense for regular contact lens wearers who are comfortable cleaning, disinfecting, and storing their lenses every night. Each six-lens box generally contains a six-month supply for one eye when replaced monthly.
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia
Best for readers who want a monthly progressive design
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia is a monthly silicone hydrogel multifocal with a 3-Zone Progressive Design. It's made for near, intermediate, and distance correction, including routines that involve reading and extended digital screen use.
Since it's reusable, the lenses need nightly cleaning and storage unless your eye doctor prescribes a different approved schedule. Don't sleep in them simply because the product has an extended-wear indication. Overnight wear must be approved for your eyes.

Glasses or Multifocals: Which Is Better for Reading?
Neither choice is automatically better. Reading glasses and multifocal contacts handle near vision differently, so the better choice depends on how you spend your day.
Reading Glasses May Make More Sense When
- You only need close-up help for short periods.
- Your distance vision is already clear without correction.
- You don't want to wear contacts every day.
- You prefer taking glasses on and off rather than going through a contact lens fitting.
- You need especially sharp near vision for detailed work.
Over-the-counter readers use the same power in both lenses. They may not work well when your eyes need different powers, you have astigmatism, or another vision condition also needs correction. An eye exam can determine whether ready-made readers are appropriate.
Multifocal Contacts May Make More Sense When
- You already wear contacts for distance vision.
- You frequently switch between reading, screens, conversations, and distance tasks.
- You don't want to search for reading glasses throughout the day.
- You prefer unobstructed peripheral vision.
- Glasses get in the way during exercise, work, or social activities.
Multifocals stay in place while your gaze shifts between distances, but they require a proper fitting and some adaptation. A small number of wearers still keep reading glasses for tiny print, dim lighting, or prolonged detailed work.
Another option is monovision, where one eye is corrected mainly for distance and the other for near vision. It works well for some people, though others dislike the effect on depth perception or visual balance. Your eye doctor can compare monovision with multifocal contact lenses during trial wear.
Can You Use Insurance to Buy Multifocal Contacts?
Yes, if your vision plan includes contact lens coverage and out-of-network reimbursement. We're considered an out-of-network retailer by most major vision insurers, so your benefits usually won't be deducted directly at checkout. Instead, you'll pay for the order and submit a claim to your insurance company.
The process generally looks like this:
- Order and pay for your prescribed multifocal contacts.
- Save or download your itemized invoice.
- Complete your insurer's out-of-network claim form.
- Attach the invoice and any other requested paperwork.
- Submit the claim according to your plan's instructions.
Your insurer decides how much it will reimburse, how often you can use the benefit, and whether your contact lens fitting has a separate allowance. Check your remaining benefits and claim deadline before ordering.
Multifocal contacts are also generally eligible medical expenses for FSA and HSA funds. Keep your itemized receipt in case your account administrator asks for documentation.
Why Shop Multifocal Contacts at Lens.com?
We've sold prescription contact lenses online since 1995. Our multifocal selection includes daily, biweekly, and monthly options from Alcon, Bausch + Lomb, CooperVision, and Johnson & Johnson.
You can compare replacement schedules, materials, pack sizes, prices, and available rebates while shopping for the exact lens listed on your contact lens prescription.
Save Up to 70% on Multifocal Contacts
We carry select contact lenses at discounts of up to 70% compared with typical retail pricing. Savings differ by product, pack size, quantity, prescription, and current rebate terms.
Our multifocal selection includes products such as:
- DAILIES TOTAL1 Multifocal
- DAILIES AquaComfort Plus Multifocal
- ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Multifocal
- 1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST Multifocal
- Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia
- Biofinity Multifocal
- Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia
- SofLens MultiFocal
- Proclear Multifocal
Some products have mail-in rebates when you buy a qualifying supply. Before checkout, review the box price, pack count, number of boxes, rebate terms, shipping cost, and final total. A large rebate can require a six-month or annual purchase, so check how much each box contains before choosing your quantity.
We Verify Your Multifocal Prescription
Contact lens prescriptions are product-specific. We can't replace one multifocal brand with another simply because both have the same distance power and ADD level. Lens material, optical design, base curve, diameter, and fitting method can differ.
Federal rules require us to receive or verify a valid prescription before completing an order. During checkout, you can upload a copy or enter your eye doctor's information so we can request verification.
The verification request includes details such as:
- Prescribed manufacturer and product
- Right-eye and left-eye powers
- ADD power for each eye
- Base curve
- Diameter
- Prescription expiration date
Your prescriber has eight business hours to confirm, correct, or reject a complete verification request under the Federal Trade Commission's Contact Lens Rule. If the prescriber doesn't respond during that period, the prescription is treated as verified.
Review every value before submitting the order. Multifocal prescriptions contain more information than a standard spherical prescription, and the right and left eyes may use different distance or ADD powers.
Keep Your Supply on Schedule With AutoRefill
Our AutoRefill program sends eligible multifocal contacts according to the shipment frequency you select. Future AutoRefill orders receive a 5% discount, and you can snooze or cancel the schedule when your supply needs change.
AutoRefill can be useful when you wear contacts every day and know how quickly you go through each box. Daily multifocal wearers usually reorder more frequently than people using monthly lenses, so select a schedule based on the exact pack count and prescriptions for both eyes.
You can enroll while reviewing items in your cart by selecting AutoRefill and choosing a delivery frequency. A credit card is required for recurring orders.
Before signing up, check:
- How many lenses come in each box
- Whether both eyes use the same product and power
- How often each lens is replaced
- How many days per week you wear contacts
- When your prescription expires
AutoRefill handles reorder timing, but it doesn't replace eye exams or prescription renewals. We'll still need a current prescription when required before sending another supply.
