How To Pick The Right Color For Your Eyes And Style

The right color depends on your natural eye color and the look you want to create. Start with a valid prescription and proper fit first, then choose a shade that matches your everyday style or the effect you want.

For Light Eyes

If you have blue, green, gray, or light hazel eyes, softer color contacts can brighten or deepen your natural shade without looking too dramatic. Try blue, green, gray, honey, or hazel tones if you want a fresh but wearable change.

For Dark Eyes

If you have dark brown or deep hazel eyes, opaque color contacts are better for a more visible color change. Hazel, honey, green, gray, and blue shades can stand out more clearly, while brown or warm amber tones can create a softer, natural-looking effect.

Daily, Monthly, And Specialty Color Contacts

Color contacts can differ by replacement schedule, care routine, and visual effect. Your prescription should match the exact lens type, so always follow your eye doctor's instructions for wear time, cleaning, and replacement.

Daily Color Contacts

Daily color contacts are worn once, then thrown away at the end of the day. They're a good match if you want a fresh pair for each wear and a lower-maintenance routine with no lens case or nightly cleaning.

Monthly Color Contacts

Monthly color contacts arereusable lenses that need proper cleaning, disinfecting, and storage after each wear. Replace them on the schedule listed by your eye doctor or lens manufacturer, even if the lenses still feel comfortable.

Specialty Color Contacts

Specialty color contacts include costume, theatrical, Halloween, cosplay, novelty, and dramatic color designs. Some correct vision and some are cosmetic only, but both types still need a valid contact lens prescription because all contact lenses sit directly on the eye.

Can You Buy Color Contacts Without Vision Correction?

Yes, you can buy color contacts with no vision correction, often called plano color contacts. These lenses have zero power, so they change or enhance your eye color without correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia.

You still need a valid contact lens prescription before buying them because plano lenses sit directly on your eyes. Your eye doctor needs to check the base curve, diameter, lens design, and fit so the contacts feel comfortable and move properly when you blink.

Can You Use A Glasses Prescription For Color Contacts?

No, you can't use a glasses prescription for color contacts. A glasses prescription is made for lenses that sit in frames in front of your eyes, while color contacts sit directly on the eye's surface.

A contact lens prescription includes details that glasses prescriptions don't, such as base curve, diameter, lens type, and sometimes the specific brand or material. For color contacts, the fit is especially important because the lens needs to stay centered so the clear pupil area lines up with your vision.

How Should You Care For Reusable Color Contacts?

You should clean and store reusable color contacts only with the contact lens solution recommended by your eye care professional. Each time you remove the lenses, use fresh solution to clean and disinfect them, then store them in a clean lens case with new solution. Do not "top off" old solution or mix yesterday's solution with fresh solution, since used solution loses disinfecting strength and can leave germs behind. Reusable color contacts still sit directly on your eyes, so proper cleaning matters even if the lenses are mainly cosmetic.

Do not rinse, soak, or store reusable color contacts in tap water, bottled water, distilled water, saliva, or homemade saline. Water can carry organisms that may stick to lenses and raise the risk of serious eye infection. You should also clean the lens case with fresh contact lens solution, let it air-dry, and replace it on the schedule your eye care professional recommends. If the lenses look damaged, feel uncomfortable, or cause redness, pain, blurry vision, or light sensitivity, take them out and check with your eye doctor before wearing them again.
