I am concerned about the health of wearing Novelty lenses. Are they safe?
Yes they are if they are used correctly and cared for according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Unlike ‘Flea market’ lenses, all Novelty (Halloween, Special Effect, FX, Theatrical) contact lenses sold by Lens.com are approved by the FDA.
What are scleral lenses?
The white part of your eye is called the sclera. Scleral Novelty contact lenses cover the white (sclera) part of the eye as well as the pupil. This can create some very scary effects. Scleral lenses create the all black effect of zombies and the all blue effect of the Fremen from the movie Dune.
I wear eyeglasses. Can I wear Novelty contact lenses?
Absolutely, as long as your eye care provider writes you a prescription. The Novelty contact lenses come in plano (no correction) and you just wear them behind your eyeglasses. You will still need to care for them so be sure to ask for care and cleaning instructions.
I wear eyeglasses. Can I use my eyeglass prescription to buy Novelty contact lenses?
Unfortunately no. The prescription for your eyeglasses will not work for contact lenses. You will need to get a contact lens prescription from your eye care provider. While you’re ther, you might as well try regular contact lenses too!
Are these the same type of contact lenses used in the movies to create special effects?
Yes. As you can see from the wide selection of movie-themed Novelty contact lenses, you can look like Darth Vader, Darth Maul, a Vampire, the living dead or a Happy Leprechaun.
Can I order more than one design of Novelty contact lenses with my prescription?
Yes you can. The prescription is for the type of lens not the design. You can order as many as you like for many different looks.
Will a prescription be requires to place an order for Novelty Contact Lenses?
We are required to verify your prescription if you live in the United States or if you are having your lenses delivered to an address in the United States.
I have astigmatism. Will I be able to wear Novelty lenses?
Novelty lenses are not available in toric parameters however most patients can wear Novelty Contact Lenses for a short time, such as while attending a party. You can check with your eye care provider to determine which non-toric prescription will provide you with the best vision.
Note: We recommend you avoid Novelty Contact Lenses which require a specific orientation on the eye for the effect to be achieved. For example 'Banshee' is oriented straight up and down. If you have astigmatism the pattern will be out of alignment and will look funny, not scary! We recommend a lens such as 'Vader', where there is no orientation, or a scleral lens which will not rotate.
Can I get Novelty lenses in my prescription?
You will need to check the specific lens design for available parameters. Some novelty lenses are hand painted, others are machine made. The hand painted lenses are only available without correction. Most of the other Novelty designs carried by Lens.com are available in a wide variety of powers.
Note: As we get closer to Halloween the selection of Novelty lenses and available powers will decrease, so we recommend you order early.
What is the accepted wearing time for Novelty contact lenses?
Novelty contact lenses should only be worn for a maximum of 8 hours at a time and never overnight.
How often can I wear my Novelty Contact Lenses?
Lens.com sells only FDA approved contact lenses. With proper care and cleaning your Novelty Contact Lenses should last one year. Please ensure you have received adequate instruction on the care and cleaning of your contact lenses especially if you intend to wear them on a regular basis.
When do Novelty Contact Lenses expire?
Once the vial has been opened the Novelty contact lens will expire in 1 year. However, to continue to enjoy your Novelty contact lenses you must maintain the lenses by changing the multi-purpose disinfection solution regularly, AT LEAST weekly, even if you do not use the lenses.
How long will it take to get my Novelty Contact Lenses from Lens.com?
Most people want these lenses for a party. Your best bet is to order early so they will arrive on time. Lens.com can ship your Novelty contact lenses by courier for 2-3 day delivery. The delivery time includes Rx Verification and processing of your order.
If you choose standard delivery it should take roughly 7-9 business days from date of order. To ensure timely delivery we recommend shipping by courier and placing your order early.
I want my Novelty contact lenses before Halloween. When should I place my order?
We advise you allow 3 business days for delivery when using courier shipping. Despite our best efforts, you may not receive your lenses by Halloween. Ordering early will help ensure you receive your lenses in time to enjoy them.
My prescription is for plus power. Are Novelty contact lenses available for me?
We carry a limited selection of novelty contact lenses in plus powers. Find the lenses you like and they may come in your prescription. Plus powers are usually made in limited quantities so it’s also important to order your lenses early.
What information will I need to provide so I can order Novelty contact lenses?
Most Novelty lenses are sold as plano (no correction). Where correction is required we will need your prescription. In all cases we will need the name of your eye doctor for confirmation that you can wear contact lenses, even plano.
I Have a contact lens prescription already – can I use it to order my Novelty lenses?
No. All contact lenses are different. You will need a new prescription to order Novelty (Halloween, Special Effect, FX, Theatrical) Contact Lenses.
Are Novelty contact lenses approved for extended or overnight wear?
Absolutely not. The materials in Novelty contact lenses are approved only for short-term wear (less than 8 hours). You will increase the risk of damage to your eyes if you do not follow your eye care professional’s wearing instructions.
Are Novelty Contact Lenses suitable for use while driving?
No they are not suitable for use while operating a motor vehicle or any other machinery requiring good vision for safety. They will distort your vision and interfere with peripheral vision. Your best approach is to take your lenses and solution with you and insert your lenses when you reach your destination or when it is safe to do so.
My friends and family members want to try on my Novelty lenses. Is that safe to do?
Absolutely not. Severe eye infections can be spread from one person to another when sharing contact lenses. In addition, contact lenses must be fit correctly by an eye care practitioner to avoid other complications.
