What Is Iodoform Packing (Lid Surgery)?
Iodoform packing is a strip of gauze impregnated with iodoform that is placed into a wound space for short-term packing. In eyelid care, it can be used after drainage of an infected pocket or when a small surgical cavity needs a temporary wick for fluid and a way to keep the space from sealing too quickly. It is not used for every eyelid procedure, and the decision depends on the wound type and the surgeon's plan. The packing is usually removed or changed on a schedule set by the clinician. Because iodoform is iodine-based, a history of iodine sensitivity should be discussed before use.
