What Is Femto-Laser Assisted Keratoplasty?
Femto-laser assisted keratoplasty uses a femtosecond laser to create precise, preplanned cuts in donor and recipient corneal tissue during corneal transplantation. The approach is often described as femtosecond laser-enabled keratoplasty (FLEK) when it involves customized trephination patterns and wound profiles. Laser-cut shapes can improve wound fit and mechanical stability compared with a purely mechanical trephine in selected cases. It can be used for penetrating keratoplasty and for some lamellar techniques depending on the surgeon and the corneal condition.
