What Is a Trochlea of Superior Oblique?
The trochlea is a pulleylike fibrocartilaginous loop in the upper inner corner of the orbit that redirects the superior oblique muscle. The muscle tendon passes through this loop before attaching to the eyeball. The bend changes the pulling direction to achieve depression, abduction (outward movement), and intorsion (internal rotation). This redirection enables precise torsional control.
