What Is a Subcapsular Cataract?
A subcapsular cataract is lens clouding that forms near the lens capsule, the thin membrane that surrounds the lens. It can develop on the back of the lens (posterior subcapsular cataract) or, less commonly, on the front (anterior subcapsular cataract). Posterior subcapsular cataracts often cause glare and reduced vision in bright light and can affect reading. Some cases progress faster than other cataract types, especially when risk factors are present.
