What Is a Mydriatic?
A mydriatic is a medicine that dilates the pupil, making the black center of the eye larger. Eye doctors use mydriatic drops during exams so they can see the retina, optic nerve, and other internal eye structures more clearly. Some mydriatics mainly widen the pupil, while others also relax the focusing muscle. The effects are temporary but can cause blurry near vision and light sensitivity.
