How 10-2 Differs From 24-2

The 10-2 test looks at a smaller area but with much tighter spacing between points. This gives more detail near fixation, where reading and face recognition happen. A 24-2 test covers a wider field but can miss small central defects. Many clinics use both tests to get a fuller picture.

Is the 10-2 test harder than 24-2?

Some people find it more tiring because it asks you to focus on a smaller area with many points. The good news is that the test is still short, and you can ask for a break if your eyes water or burn.

Can a 24-2 miss central vision loss?

Yes. A 24-2 has fewer points close to the center, so small central defects can be missed. That is one reason doctors add a 10-2 when symptoms or OCT suggest central change.

Do you need dilation for a 10-2 test?

Usually no. The test is done at a machine with your pupils as-is. If your doctor also wants a retina exam, dilation may still be done at the same visit.

What if you keep missing lights you think you saw?

That can happen from fatigue, dryness, or overthinking the test. Try to click only when you are sure you saw a light. If reliability is low, the clinic may repeat the test.
