What Is a Nose Pad?
A nose pad is a small and adjustable component of an eyeglass frame designed to support the weight of the glasses on the bridge of the nose. In dispensing optics nose pads are mandatory for maintaining the "Vertex Distance," which is the exact space between the eye and the lens needed for clear vision. Most nose pads are made of medical-grade silicone, PVC, or titanium and are attached to the frame by thin metal "guard arms." Beyond simple comfort the alignment of the nose pads is a primary factor in preventing "Prismatic Effect" where an incorrectly positioned lens causes the wearer to experience double vision and headaches.
