What Is Meniscal Repair?
Meniscal repair is knee surgery that sutures or anchors a torn meniscus so the tissue can heal rather than being removed. The medial and lateral menisci are crescent-shaped fibrocartilage structures that distribute load, absorb shock, and contribute to knee stability. Repair preserves more meniscal tissue than partial meniscectomy and can reduce the long-term loss of joint protection associated with tissue removal. The procedure is most commonly performed arthroscopically through small incisions around the knee.
