What Is a White Pupil?
Leukocoria, commonly referred to as a "white pupil," is a clinical sign where the normally black pupil appears white, silver, or yellow. This occurs when an intraocular mass, opacity, or detachment reflects light back through the pupil. In the eyewear and ophthalmic community, leukocoria is treated as a high priority medical emergency until serious pathologies like retinoblastoma or congenital cataracts are ruled out.
