What Is Lacrimal Probing (Infant)?
Infant lacrimal probing is a procedure that opens a blocked tear duct in a baby. Many babies are born with a drainage pathway that is not fully open yet, which can cause constant watery eyes. You may also see mucus or crusting because tears are not draining normally. Probing uses a very thin instrument to gently clear the blockage so tears can flow into the nose. It is usually considered when symptoms persist despite home care like massage.
