What Are Jaundice-Related Corneal Deposits?
Jaundice related corneal deposits are yellowish or greenish discolorations in the cornea that occur in the setting of very high bilirubin levels. Bilirubin from the bloodstream can bind to corneal tissue, especially in Descemet's membrane and deeper layers. These deposits are uncommon and usually appear in patients with severe or prolonged jaundice. They are mostly a sign of systemic liver disease rather than a primary eye problem. Visual impact is often mild unless other ocular issues are present.
