It is used to evaluate diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and suspected inflammatory or vascular disease. The test can show microaneurysms, areas of nonperfusion, and patterns of leakage that are hard to see on a standard exam. Get urgent help if you develop trouble breathing, wheezing, swelling of the lips or face, or widespread hives. Chest tightness, severe dizziness, or fainting also needs urgent evaluation. Call your clinic if the injection site becomes very painful, swollen, or blistered, since dye can irritate tissue if it leaks under the skin. Persistent vomiting or a severe headache after the test should also be reported. Mild nausea, brief flushing, and bright yellow urine are common and typically clear within a day.
