What Is the Ice Pack Test (Ptosis)?
The ice pack test is a simple and non-invasive diagnostic tool used by neurologists and eye specialists to screen for Myasthenia Gravis (MG). Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune condition that causes muscle weakness, often manifesting as a droopy upper eyelid known as ptosis. In this test, a cold pack is placed over the closed, droopy eyelid for exactly two minutes. If the eyelid lift improves significantly immediately after the cold is removed, the test is considered positive, providing strong clinical evidence that the weakness is caused by MG.
