What Is Hypertrophy of Plica Semilunaris?
Hypertrophy of the plica semilunaris is an enlargement or thickening of the small fold of tissue at the inner corner of the eye. The plica is a normal structure, but it can look swollen when the eye is irritated or inflamed. Allergies, chronic irritation, and surface inflammation are common reasons it becomes more noticeable. Some people feel scratchiness, tearing, or a mild foreign-body feeling. An eye exam checks for causes and rules out growths that need different care.
