What Is Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK)?
Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty, or DMEK, is a corneal transplant that replaces only the damaged endothelial layer. This ultrathin graft includes the donor Descemet membrane and endothelium without any stromal tissue. It is used for conditions that cause endothelial failure. DMEK provides very quick visual recovery and a natural corneal shape. It is one of the most selective forms of corneal transplantation.
