What Is Central Vision Loss?
Central vision loss is a specific type of visual impairment in which the center of the visual field becomes blurry, distorted, or completely dark, while peripheral vision remains intact. This occurs due to damage to the macula, the highly sensitive area of the retina responsible for sharp, straight ahead vision. Without a functioning macula, tasks that require fine detail, such as reading, recognizing faces, or driving, become very difficult or impossible. This condition often results in a blind spot that moves with eye movement.
