What Is Blood in the Eye?
Blood in the eye most often refers to a subconjunctival hemorrhage, a bright red patch under the clear surface layer of the white of the eye. It looks dramatic but is usually harmless and painless. The blood spreads then clears over 1 to 3 weeks as it reabsorbs. Rarely, bleeding inside the eye after trauma is more serious and needs urgent care.
