What Is Bacterial Conjunctivitis?
Bacterial conjunctivitis is an eye infection caused by bacteria that inflame the conjunctiva, the thin membrane covering the white part of the eye and inside of the eyelids. It leads to redness, swelling, and a sticky discharge that can make the eyelids stick together, especially in the morning. The condition is highly contagious and spreads easily through contact with infected hands or objects. It affects people of all ages but is common in children.
