What Is Anterior Basement Membrane Dystrophy?
Anterior basement membrane dystrophy (ABMD), also called map dot fingerprint dystrophy, is a common corneal disorder affecting the epithelium and its underlying basement membrane. It causes irregularities on the corneal surface that can blur vision and lead to recurrent erosions. Symptoms range from mild irritation to sharp pain upon waking. Many cases are mild and discovered during routine eye exams.
