An orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) is designed to break apart rapidly on the tongue. It is generally swallowed with saliva and commonly does not require water. The dosage form can help patients who have difficulty swallowing conventional tablets. Disintegration in the mouth does not necessarily mean that the drug is absorbed through the oral lining.
