Its Role in the Lab Process

The blocking process is the critical link between your prescription measurements and the final cut lens. A modern blocker has a built-in reader to find the optical center of the lens. The optician uses your pupillary distance (PD) and the frame's shape data to align the lens perfectly on a screen. Once it is in the exact right spot, the machine attaches the block.
