What Is an Idiosyncratic Reaction?
An idiosyncratic reaction is an unusual and largely unpredictable response to a medicine that occurs in a small number of susceptible people. It is not explained well by the drug's usual pharmacologic effects. These reactions can involve genetic, metabolic, immune, or other patient-specific differences. They range from mild symptoms to severe injury affecting the skin, liver, blood cells, or other organs.
