What Is an Eye Socket Fracture?
An eye socket fracture, also called an orbital fracture, is a break in one or more of the bones that form the bony socket around the eye. It usually happens after blunt trauma to the face from accidents, falls, sports, or assaults. The fracture can affect the thin floor or walls of the orbit and sometimes trap muscles or soft tissue. Symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising, and changes in eye movement or position. This injury needs prompt medical evaluation to protect vision and eye function.
