How Does A Saline Lock Work?

When medicine or fluid is needed, staff clean the access port and connect the ordered treatment. After use, the line can be flushed and capped again.

When Is A Saline Lock Used?

The site should be checked for pain, redness, swelling, warmth, leaking, bleeding, or loose dressing. These signs can point to irritation, infection, or fluid leaking into tissue. The access port should be cleaned before use to reduce contamination risk. Tell the nurse or care team if the site hurts, the dressing lifts, or the line feels loose.
