What Is a Retinal Tear?
A retinal tear is a break in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. It often happens when the vitreous gel pulls on the retina as it separates with age. A tear can let fluid slip under the retina and raise the risk of retinal detachment. Prompt diagnosis and treatment can greatly lower the chance of a detachment.
