What Is a Retinal Cyst?
A retinal cyst is a fluid-filled space within the layers of the retina. It is often a descriptive finding on imaging rather than a single disease diagnosis. Cystic spaces can form with macular edema from diabetes, vein occlusion, inflammation, or after eye surgery. Some cystic changes occur in the peripheral retina with aging or in chronic retinal detachment.
