What Is a Leaking Bleb?
A leaking bleb is a filtration bleb from glaucoma surgery that lets aqueous humor escape through a focal defect in the overlying conjunctiva. This leak leads to a Seidel positive test and can cause low intraocular pressure, shallow anterior chamber, or hypotony related maculopathy. Longstanding leaks create a thin avascular area that is vulnerable to infection. Patients sometimes notice tearing, foreign body sensation, or blurred vision. Identifying and treating a leak protects both bleb function and the eye as a whole.
