What Is a Heparin Reversal Agent?
A heparin reversal agent is a medicine used to reduce or stop the anticoagulant effect of heparin. Protamine sulfate is the standard medicine used to neutralize unfractionated heparin. It can also reverse part, but not all, of the anticoagulant effect of low-molecular-weight heparin. Reversal is used when rapid control of heparin activity is medically necessary.
