How Do You Get Keratitis In The Eye??
Bacterial keratitis is a serious infection and inflammation of the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped front surface of the eye. The root cause of this condition is the invasion and proliferation of bacteria in the corneal tissue, which leads to the formation of a corneal ulcer. Normally, the cornea is protected by an intact epithelial layer and the flushing action of the tear film. The infection occurs when the protective barrier is breached or otherwise compromised, allowing common environmental or human-commensal bacteria to penetrate the underlying stroma and cause rapid tissue damage.
