What Is Polycoria?
Polycoria is an extremely rare ocular condition characterized by the presence of more than one pupillary opening in the iris of a single eye. While most humans have a single central pupil to regulate light, individuals with polycoria appear to have two or more distinct holes. These additional pupils may be present from birth (congenital) or result from later injury or disease. Depending on the size and location of the extra openings, the condition can cause significant visual disturbances, including blurred vision, glare, and "ghost images" (diplopia).
