How Can You Tell If A Scratch Is On The Coating Or The Lens?
Coating damage often looks like fine, patchy marks that change with viewing angle, while deeper lens scratches tend to look like a clear line that stays visible in the same spot. If the mark feels smooth but looks cloudy, coating wear is more likely. If the mark catches a fingernail, the lens surface is probably scratched. An optician can check under bright light to confirm.
