How Inset Works?

For distance viewing, the eyes look straight ahead. For near viewing, the eyes turn in slightly. Without inset, the near segment of the lens would be too far out, forcing the wearer to strain their eye muscles to look through the correct spot. Proper inset places the near power where the eyes are naturally focused.
