How Does Cequa Affect Dry Eye Inflammation?

Cyclosporine is a calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressant when used systemically. In dry eye linked to ocular inflammation, topical cyclosporine is thought to act as a partial immunomodulator. The exact mechanism by which Cequa increases tear production has not been established.

Who Is Treated With Cequa?

Cequa is indicated to increase tear production in patients with keratoconjunctivitis sicca. It is used topically in the eyes and has no listed contraindications under current U.S. prescribing information. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients younger than 18 have not been established.

How Are Cequa Eye Drops Used?

One drop is instilled into each eye twice daily about 12 hours apart. Artificial tears can be used with Cequa when separated by at least 15 minutes. Each single-use vial is discarded immediately after use in one or both eyes. The vial tip should not touch the eye or another surface.

What Safety Precautions Apply to Cequa?
