Blincyto is a prescription cancer medicine containing blinatumomab, a bispecific CD19-directed CD3 T-cell engager. It is approved for several forms of CD19-positive B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia in adults and pediatric patients age 1 month and older. Blincyto is given as a continuous intravenous infusion using an infusion pump.

Bringing these cells together activates T cells and triggers destruction of CD19-positive leukemia cells. This activity leads to T-cell expansion and release of inflammatory signaling molecules during treatment.
Blincyto treats CD19-positive B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia with minimal residual disease of at least 0.1 percent during first or second complete remission. It also treats relapsed or refractory disease and Philadelphia chromosome-negative B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia during the consolidation phase of multiphase chemotherapy.
Blincyto is given by continuous intravenous infusion at a constant rate through an infusion pump. Induction and consolidation cycles commonly include 28 days of continuous infusion followed by a 14-day treatment-free interval. Dose and schedule depend on the leukemia setting, body weight, treatment cycle, and adverse reactions. Hospital monitoring is used during specified early treatment periods.
Blincyto carries a boxed warning for cytokine release syndrome and neurological toxicities, including immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome. These reactions can become life-threatening or fatal. Other concerns include infections, low blood counts, tumor lysis syndrome, liver enzyme elevations, pancreatitis, and fetal harm. Treatment interruption or discontinuation is used for selected severe reactions.
