What Is a Junctional Melanocytic Nevus (Lid)?
A junctional melanocytic nevus of the eyelid is a benign mole made of pigment producing cells located at the junction between the outer skin layer and the underlying tissue. On the lid it usually appears as a flat or slightly raised brown spot with smooth borders. These nevi are common in childhood and can slowly change as a person grows. Most junctional nevi are harmless, but rare cases can transform into melanoma, so monitoring is important. Any rapid change in size, color, shape, or symptoms should be checked by an eye care specialist or dermatologist.
